Let's talk about rot!

It is essential to stay on top of maintaining exterior wood trim. Once your trim begins to rot, it’s difficult to recover. Replacing and repairing can be much more expensive than routine maintenance. Below are some routine maintenance tips to help keep your home rot-free!

prevention Tips:

1. Power wash and clean your painted trim annually to keep mold, dirt, and grime from eating away at the paint. Also, doing an annual cleaning will help to expose any chipping paint which can lead to wood damage.

2. Inspect any visibly chipping surfaces to see if the paint is simply chipping, or if the wood below is soft and beginning to rot. If the wood is still solid, prime the chipping area and put on a topcoat to ensure protection going forward.

3. Besides touch ups and dealing with obvious issues, we recommend putting a fresh coat of paint on all exterior trim every 10 to 12 years to maintain protection and keep the paint from chipping.
